Baba’s Soundcheck
There was a time that without fail the Sterilles would play the Sound Check on Sunset and Vine (If my memory serves me correctly) Sunday nights or Wednesdays and sometimes Spider Middleman would sit in and play his Sax… The Denver Mexicans would try out new tunes and we’d hoot n’ holler from the sidelines. One time Tex from Tex and the Horseheads almost decked me for some stupid joke I said. Those were the good ol’ days. D-na do you remember when the cops stopped our set because there was a murder subject hiding in the bar, then they caught the guy and took him out and we continued the song right where we left off. Now that’s rock n’ roll people!

Sunday Nights. Oh yes, the night the cops rolled in. Was this Ashleys’s first gig with us? This picture was taken that night, on the first of my 21st birthdays. ( I had 3 you know) And we were pooping our pants when the cops came in because you and several of our friends were still under 21 we thought they were coming for us. After they found their man, one of the cops came up to the mike and just said “carry on,”and so we did. Tom Possum’s Out of The Fire played that night too, and Bruce “cutier than a speckled pup” Joyner sat in with the guys. I think Dave gave me a cake. Was that the night BABA “forked” some guy at the bar? Wow, amazing I remembered any of that night the next day, or some 20 + years later. Or was it all just a dream….

I believe that WAS the night Baba forked a guy. It is amazing that you remember. I believe I made you the cake and Dave brought it in…if my memory serves me correctly which it probably doesn’t you had the creme de mint cake with Hersheys Hot Fudge frosting the top with cool whip mixed with more creme de mint frosted on top of the hot fudge. God I loved that cake…too bad Hersheys doesn’t make that brand of hot fudge anymore. The cake is just not the same.
Possum was the red head right? And who could forget Bruce Joyner…he’s awesome.
